Smoke & Heat Detector Technologies
Detectors sense different fire signatures. Photoelectric and ionization smoke sensors respond to different smoke types, while heat detectors use fixed-temperature or rate-of-rise principles. Matching detector technology to the space reduces missed detection and nuisance alarms.
- Explain how smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detection differ and when each is appropriate.
- Compare photoelectric vs. ionization smoke sensing and fixed-temperature vs. rate-of-rise heat detection.
- Describe the role of manual pull stations and waterflow/tamper switches, and match detector type to the space.
