Emergency Communication Systems
Emergency Communication Systems (ECS) extend fire alarm signaling with intelligible voice messages and mass notification — evacuation, relocation, shelter-in-place, and non-fire emergencies. Intelligibility and coordinated messaging are central goals.
- Explain the purpose of audible (horn), visible (strobe), and voice notification.
- Define intelligibility and explain why 'loud' is not the same as 'understood'.
- Describe accessibility requirements such as visible signaling for occupants who cannot hear an alarm.
